Philosophy

Barbara E. Kaplan has been providing services for more than 40 years. Over 6500 clients - individuals, couples and families - have received her professional services over the years. Although she has provided counseling to children, adolescents and adults, she currently limits her practice to adults, ages18 years and older. Whether entering counseling to manage, alleviate or reduce severity of symptoms, work on issues or problems, address concerns about sexuality, sexual enrichment, address difficulty with erections or sexual desires/arousal/orgasm, work on healing emotional pain stemming from sexual abuse, to deal with unwanted excessive sexual behavior, address repeated unhealthy patterns of behavior/relationships, for anger management, address addictions, develop a greater ability to deal with emotional and other life challenges, for conflict resolution, to gain self-awareness and perspective on life circumstances, deal with coping difficulties or to enhance wellbeing or relationships, counseling is an OPPORTUNITY for CHANGE. This counselor utilizes an eclectic approach, meaning that she does not apply a one-treatment model for all clients. Instead, she considers different counseling theories, concepts and techniques to tailor treatment to the client. She fosters empowering the client with the client learning skills in counseling that may be used outside of the therapeutic session for current or future issues and problems. The length of treatment is determined in mutual agreement with the client. However, the client may terminate treatment whenever the client deems it appropriate. There is no set number of sessions that the client must attend.
